Activity Description:
Topic: What is meant by empathy? How does it work with senior citizens?

Have you ever thought about your ageing? What you would like to do and expect when you are "getting old"? In Hong Kong, the person who is 65 years old is identified as "an elder". However, the ageism and perception of "getting old" should be reviewed in this contemporary society. The term "elderly" is starting to fade out and it is better for us to use “senior citizens” instead. When we are doing our voluntary works for the senior citizens in the social services, what and how is the best way to interact with them? “Empathy” could be defined as the ability to share someone else's feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person's situation. Do your care and concern is a kind of “empathy” or “sympathy”? What is the meaning and implication to us in developing the ageing-friendly city? It will be good to discuss and make a reflection on this topic. Welcome to join me and I am delighted to share more with you about entering a new era of ageing with an innovative framework.
