Activity Description:
Human mobility analysis is an inter-disciplinary field. The field is rapidly evolving due to new opportunities brought by ubiquitous sensing technologies, big data, and artificial intelligence. The ways we understand the spatial, temporal, and semantic aspects of human mobility have been augmented, but also, challenged. Through a collection of projects conducted by the speaker and research team, this talk first introduces how mobile big data are used to understand mobility dynamics of urban residents, their linkage with socioeconomic environment, and impact on human interactions and segregation. By switching the focus to urban visitors, the talk demonstrates how geospatial technologies and big data are used to advance understanding of tourist mobility and support tourism-related applications. Finally, the talk introduces a few pilot studies that investigate mobility during the Covid-19 pandemic and discusses possible new research focus for the field in the post-pandemic era.
